Bike Fitting - only £20
When you're riding long distance on the road, either at high speed or at a more leisurely pace, it is inevitable that your body will be forced to sustain a continual, fairly static riding posture for extended periods. For this reason, and to avoid aches and numbness, it is critical that your bike fits you and is set up according to your natural body geometry. While an experienced eye in a cycle shop is able to spot mismatches and allow informed recommendations, Bikefit will provide us with sizing based on objective ergonomic measurement.
At Cycle Heaven we use the Dutch bikefitting.com system of anatomical measurement to match you to your ideal bike. Using their standard analysis, we can recommend your ideal bicycle size and riding position. We will then print out a computer drawing, defining your ideal set-up in terms of your chosen bike style. A drawing can be generated and printed for every bike type you are interested in, from the list of 12 different generic bike types.
The standard measurement jig located in our upstairs show room precisely measures eight body dimensions (and you only have to take your shoes off!):
- Height
- Foot length (left and right)
- Inseam
- Torso length
- Arm length (left and right)
- Shoulder width
The model of shoe (sole thickness), pedal type (height) and saddle type are also taken into account.
Armed with this information, we can advise you which frame size to select from our range of bikes and then help you achieve a set-up which replicates the recommendations made on the drawing. Usually fairly straightforward adjustments of stem length and angle coupled with saddle height, angle and fore/aft position will achieve the required set-up.
Of course, this procedure is not only applicable to new bikes: it's a perfect way to adjust an existing bike to fit you better (within reason) and help iron out some of the typical nggles that can ruin a day on the bike.
After all necessary adjustments have been made, the next step is to rack up some miles and see how it all feels. Given that the basis of the riding position recommendation lies somewhere within the bikefitting.com database definition of 12 generic bike types, it is possible that minor adjustments will still be required. These adjustments will only be small, however: you will be pretty close to your ideal riding position.
We are always happy to measure anyone up and give informed advice on bike size and set-up. It takes about 30 - 45 minutes, depending on how many types you are interested in, so we have to make a nominal charge:
£20 gets you the complete standard measurement service including computer drawings.
We will refund the complete amount if you then buy a bike - now, how good a deal is that?
