The Bionx retrofit power system converts just about any bike into an electric bike. This will enable you to tackle steep hills and windy days, carry extra loads and pull trailers with ease. If you live in a hilly area you can use even your downhills to recharge the battery by switching to the regenerative mode, which effectively will extend your electric bikes range.

The beauty of Bionx is that it is a retro-fit system which means that we (or you) can fit it to just about any bike. The motor comes ready built into a rear wheel which you can simply swap into your existing bike. The battery can be mounted inside the frame on the bottle cage mounts, or (with the PL250HT RR) mounted on the back with its custom rack. The display and control system mounts on your handlebars.

For retro fitting to old bikes and installation on cyclescheme purchases, fitting is £30.00.

There are four different kits available (see left column) and each one comprises:

A console (measuring trip distance, odometer, current/average speed, clock, back light, battery life) - powered by main battery; the console has auto assist and regenerative modes and features a semi-immobilising lock mode. Easy to use and easy to read, the console features a large LCD screen and user friendly operating buttons.

A rear wheel and motor (including a screw-on 8 or 9 speed freewheeel). The motor will power the rear wheel forward but also, when braking, transform speed back into stored energy in the battery. Ride, regenerate and use the stored power to extend the ride time.

A battery. The Bionx lithium manganese rechargeable battery is safe, stable, relatively light and extremely compact. a single charge of 3-4 hours can last up to 80km (with the PL250HT) and more when using the regeneration mode. Charging can take less than 3 hours depending on how much charge remains in the battery. The battery has a lifespan of 800 charges.
