Gazelle ebikes are not the the cheapest, but are pretty much the highest quality and highest specification electric bikes available - especially in the UK. Compare the details of their specification with their rivals carefully and you will soon realise why you get what you pay for.

The Innergy Pure range are more 'budget' oriented models equipped with a slightly lower specification - including rigid, instead of suspension forks and front V brakes, rather than roller brakes. These being Gazelles however, this spec is equivalent or indeed superior to most of their similarly priced rivals!  Like every Gazelle city bike, they are fully equipped with a complete ensemble of high quality accessories.

Among the many technical and quality advantages of the Innergy system, one observation made by many testers and owners over other systems is how quiet it is. You could feasibly ride assisted in a group with others around you unaware of the helping hand you were receiving.

The first Gazelle ebike - the Easyglider, was built using the ubiquitous Panasonic gear drive system that many other brands use, but the popular demand for the Innergy soon outstripped it leading Gazelle to cease production of the Easyglider.

Gazelle have targetted sales of 60,000 Innergy cycles across the globe for 2011-12, making it one of the most successful ebike systems on the market.

The Chamonix Pure Innergy is the cheapest ebike in the range. It's a contemporary looking Dutch town bike equipped with a seven speed hub gear. Go for this if you want to cycle in flattish terrain - though being an ebike, it will obviously cope with hills much more easily regardless of the number of gears. This model is built with a rigid fork and has more angular tubing than the Orange. The cost depends on the level of battery power that you choose:

Chamonix Pure Innergy with bronze battery £1564.99
Chamonix Pure Innergy with silver battery £1639.99
Chamonix Pure Innergy with gold battery £1699.99

Chamonix Pure Innergy with platinum battery £1869.99

It's Pure level specification is distinguished by having less gears (7 rather than 8); a rigid (rather than a suspension) fork; a less sophisticated control system for the electrical assist (more on which below); and a slightly more economical level of trim (by Dutch standards!) throughout the rest of the bike. Otherwise, it's a fully equipped, comfy, upright, very high quality town bike.

How it works
Pure models have a simple system using a rotation sensor to detect forward rotation of the pedals and switch on the motor.  The motor delivers a constant level of support, which the rider will feel right from the start of pedalling. This contrasts with the higher spec Xtra and Excellent models which deliver a more variable level of support. The overall level of assistance can be changed -  from Eco (maximum range) to Normal, or to Boost  (maximum assist), depending on the riding condtions. On Pure models, the handlebar display is clear and simple, giving the rider information about the remaining battery power and which assistance mode is active.

Axa frame locks

All Gazelles have a frame lock fitted at the rear of the bike, which immobilises the rear wheel at the flick of a lever. This means that an opportunist thief will have to carry your pride and joy away. If you use it in conjunction with a good D-lock, you have great security.

The lock always comes with 2 keys - if you lose them or damage them, all is not lost. We have outlined all you need to know here.
