Ridgeback Journey 2012

The Ridgeback Journey is a touring bike equipped with a hub gear. Once upon a time this would have been considered somewhat absurd, but advances is hub gear technology have now resulted in offerings that have the range and durability to take the strains that loaded touring and all sorts of other uses is likely to impose. This bike comes with the Shimano Alfine 8 speed - which has already impressed us with its off road pedigree when fitted to mountain bikes in the Ridgeback and Genesis range. With a wide gear range of approximately 27" to 85" it should be able to cope with a wide variety of gradients.

We think that this will turn out to be a versatile and rugged performer. Thinking beyond touring and the open road, we can only imagine the day to day abuse that these bikes will inevitably suffer - grinding all weather commuting and "utility": overloaded with shopping, night-time pub rides, visiting allotments, carrying absurdly large objects home from car boot sales - oh the glamour!

A nice tough steel frame, with drop bars - yours to ride, yours to crash - your friend for life.
