Choosing
your Brompton
1.
Select your riding position.

There
are three types of handlebar:
desinated by the prefix: S, M or P.

The
S-type (shown here with 2 speed
trigger), has a straight mountain bike style handlebar. It will suit
those looking for a more forward, lower and streched out sporty riding
position. It gives a livelier ride than the M type so it will suit a
sportier rider. Because it is lower it will also suit smaller riders.
It is also, by a small margin, the lightest option. Please note that
the standard front bags are not suitable for this option, though the
smaller courier style 'S' bag is available instead.

The
P-type (shown
here with six speed controls), is a totally
unique and versatile Brompton design which
allows for two main riding positions. It offers
a very upright comfort position that's higher
than the M type or, one that is well down
for the open road or sportier riding (and
lower than the S type). Gripping the top corners
also gives a higher leverage position that
is good fo hilll limbing. Great for touring,
but also a good all rounder.

The
M-type (shown
here with a three speed shifter), is the classic
curvy Brompton style. It allows a a comfy
upright ride and is suitable for general purpose
riding.
2.
Select your gearing.

There
are four options: 1,2,3 or 6 speeds - designated
by the number in the model title.
1.
A single speed freewheel.
For the absolute lightest - will suit the hardcore purist.
2.
A two speed derailleur (pictured).
If you value lightness, low maintenance and simplcity and live in a
fairly flat area. The gear inches are well chosen - 55.7" for starting
and climbing and 74.3" for cruising. They work well in the city
and on the open road.
3.
Sturmey Archer three speed hub gear. A
classic all rounder gear and the chaepest multiple geared option.
4.
Two speed derailleur plus the SRAM three speed hub gear = six speed.
Gives
a wider gear range for hillier areas or for touring.
All
gear options are available in lower or higher
options for ALC builds. See the ALC order
form for full details.
3.
Select your frame type.
There
are two options:

1.
Superlight: steel/titanium. Mainframe
and handlebar stem column in steel. Front fork, rear frame (pictured)
and seatpost in titanium. Designated by the suffix "-X."
2.
Standard: all steel.
4.
Select your colour.
1.
Standard
colours are: black/silver or black/black
on the all steel models at no extra cost.
2.
For an extra charge you can specify any one
of eleven other colours or clear lacquer for the mainframe
and extremities (rear frame, front fork and handlebar stem) on the steel
bikes. Mainframe surcharge is £25.00, extremities also £25.00,
raw lacquer £80.00 extra on steel and £60.00 on titanium.
3.
Standard colours on the superlight titanium
models are flamingo pink/ti, kew green/ti and tempest blue/ti at no
extra cost.
Titanium
parts are only available in a brushed, unpainted finish.
4.
You can specify any one of twelve other colours
(£40.00) or clear lacquer(£60.00) for the mainframe on all
superlight models.
5.
Select your accesories.
There
are lots of options here...
Rack
and mudguards are designated in the model
title with the last letter as follows:

No
rack or mudguards = E type
(bike shown M3E).

Mudguards
only = L type
(bike shown M2L-X).

Rack
and mudguards = R type
(bike shown M6R).
You
can also select your seatpost length and type
(steel or ti); your lighting (battery of dynamo);
luggage options, and many other variations
which are detailed on the ALC order form,
but are perhaps best demonstrated in store.
Luggage
options however, can easily be retro fitted.
Some are are pictured below. For the front
luggage you need to fit the front carrier
block. For the rear bag, you need a rear rack
(as on R version Bromptons).

Front carrier
block £16.00

Folding basket set £47.00

S Bag. £76.00
A stylish low profile bag. Features rear and
internal pockets, penslots and a side mobile
phone pocketPlease note that this is the only
bag suitable for S type Bromptons.

Touring
pannier £76.00
This is the largest capacity pannier. It has
a large central compartment and to rear pockets,
both with roll top closures and open front
and side mesh pockets.
Confused?
Well here's an example: a straight bar, three speed Brompton with rack
and mudgards in the superlight version will be an S3R-X. Full prices
and specifications are detailed on the B-Spoke order form above.

Choosing
your Birdy
1.
Select your model.
There
are five models. Choose from the Birdy Red, City, Touring, Speed of
Rohloff (see opposite).
2.
Select your colour.
Choose
from: black, blue, orange, cream or anthracite.
3.
Select your riding position (handlebar stem).

A.
Standard: for
a longer reach and/or a more forward, sports position.

B.
Comfort: for
a shorter reach or a more upright position.
4.
Select your accessories.
There are
lots to choose from. Some of them are featured here, but please ask
about anything else you might require.
Racks
- Expedition or SL, as shown on the bikes opposite.
Mudguards
- which are highly recommended, to protect the bike, also featured opposite.
Kickstand
- also recommended, as the Birdy will not 'lean' as easily as a standard
bike and is very useful on station platforms.

Birdy
kickstand.
The
Birdy also has a choice of two different covers:

Birdy
Cover. This simple slip cover will protect the paintwork
when travelling whilst disguising the folded bike for those occasions
where you may encounter resistance (i.e. 'jobsworths').

Birdy
Rucksack.
This folds into a handy rucksack which will carry some accessories when
riding. It unfolds into a tough cordura travel bag, with handles and
a shoulder strap. Please note: you cannot carry the bike on your
back with this item! A Birdy suitcase is also available.

Folding
Bikes
We have the largest
selection of folding bikes in the region and we are also the North's
biggest Brompton dealer. We are very selective about about what brands
and models of folder we stock, so the chances are if we don't stock
it, then it's probably not worth having! Everyone in our shop and workshop
is folder friendly so you can be assured that whatever your needs, we
can find what's right for you, so you've come to the right place...
Transport
problems solved
What could be more useful than a bike that you
can take virtually anywhere? A folder is a real
transport integrator. Take it by bus, train,
aeroplane, yacht, narrowboat, or by car. Its
foldability allows it to cope admirably with
many of the problems associated with day to
day cycling. For
instance, security is less of a hassle with
a bike that you can keep indoors and storage
is hardly a problem with a machine that you
can keep in the cupboard! At Cycle Heaven we
have long been advocates of folding bikes, in
particular as a solution to many of the problems
associated with personal transport in urban
areas.
Small Wheels
Good!
The bikes that we sell are light years away
from the notorious "shoppers" of
the 1970s that gave folders such a bad name.
They get round the problems traditionally
associated with small-wheeled bikes by using
a combination of appropriate gearing, high-pressure
tyres and suspension. In many situations small
wheels actually enhance their performance
relative to conventional bikes.
Only The
Best
At Cycle Heaven we currently stock numerous
brands of folder which we consider to be absolutely
the best available when all things are considered
- performance, foldability and price. Read
about their specification here and then feel
free to visit us for a test ride - virtual
reality is no substitute! We will advise you
on which folder best suits your needs. If
you do decide to buy, remember that our service
does not end with your purchase - at Cycle
Heaven you get one year's free servicing -
that's a year's labour on your bike for free.
The
Advantages of
A Folding Bike
A
Transport Integrator
You will have no problems taking it on public
transport be it by train, bus or taxi. We
have sold folders to pilots, sailors, coach
drivers, narrow boaters, caravanners and motorists.
Space
If you live in a flat or small terrace where
storage is a problem, a folder will fit in
a cupboard.
Security
Because a folder is so portable there is no
need to leave it in vulnerable places; you
can take it in with you, or check it into
the cloakroom.
Durability
Because folders tend to live indoors they
last longer than conventional cycles. If you
need to clean it, do it on some newspaper
on the kitchen table.
Speed
Because folders stay with you, they are genuinely door to door transport,
so you don't have to waste time looking for safe parking.
The
Brompton
The
Small Bike for the Big City

A
cycling legend, the Brompton sets the standards
for folding bikes. The clever bit is the characteristic "flip"
of its back wheel under the frame, for both parking and folding. This
allows for the inclusion of rear suspension, and thus high-pressure
tyres. The net result is a bike that folds better and faster than
anything else on the market. Low weight, a short wheelbase, small
wheels and light steering also make it a very quick and agile machine.
Indeed, it will ride better than most large wheelers. British made.
Though
many of our customers do serious mileage on
them, the Brompton is best suited to the city
where property values put a premium on space
its folded footprint is negligible;
where traffic congestion reduces average speeds
to less than 15mph, its light handling and
fast acceleration gives it a decided advantage;
where life is fast and its quick fold and
versatility allows it to integrate with bus,
train and taxi.
It
is above all a supremely practical utility
bike and has an excellent luggage carrying
system.
If your cycling needs are for shorter frequent
trips such as commuting and shopping;
If you need to fold frequently - many commuters
will have to fold 8 times a day;
If you want
to wear conventional clothing - the Brompton has a low crossbar and
a chain that sits inside the fold;
...then go for
Brompton.
Which
Brompton?
Brompton
bikes can be obtained from us in three ways:
1)
Key models (KM), Brompton's standard models -
which are outlined below on the right and designated (KM). All of these
come with some sort of lighting - which is usually the main difference
from our standard models, although they may differ in other respects
such as colour. We keep most of these in stock.
2)
Our standard models -
which are based on models that have proved popular among our customers
over the years. They do not feature lighting unless otherwise specified.
These are also outlined below. We keep a selection of these in stock,
often in alternative mainframe colours which adds £25 to the price.
3)
Or, B-Spoke
- where you can customise to your own requirements. These are to order
and can take a number of weeks depending on production availability.
The main features are explained below on the left. To download an ALC
order form click below. It has all the options and prices.
Download
Brompton B-spoke order form
If
you are unfamiliar with the Brompton range, best start with a review
of the main features on the left to get an idea of the variations and
then look at the standard models below. Because these are based upon
the most popular configurations and are generally available from stock
you should find something to suit your needs.
In
all cases we strongly recommend that you visit
us to test ride the bikes and to discuss your
requirements. We also have models available
for extended test rides.

as above, but with the P bar.
We recommend the M6R and the P6R for...
touring and applications which require the carrying of bigger loads.

M2L-X
£990
Standard

cheapest standard titanium model, this model feature standard saddle

£1084
Standard

The
Birdy
From Riese
and Muller
The High Performance Folding Bike
The
Birdy from the German company Riese and Muller is a full suspension
folding bike with superior road performance and some off road potential.
The Birdy's fold allows it to retain a jointless main frame that is
solid and stable. The use of aluminium for the frame makes it very very
light. The use of swingarm system both front and rear allows full suspension
and folding. All this adds up to a bike that's light, fast and fun to
ride.
Although
the Birdy enjoys all the generic advantages of any folder - namely compact
portability, it is best suited to those who seek a faster ride and to
cover longer distances than the Brompton. It does not have quite such
an easy or compact fold as the Brompton, but it is lighter for lugging
around!
Which
Birdy?
The Birdy is now a configurable cycle - like the Brompton. Simply choose
your colour, transmission option and accessories. The accessories can
also be added on at a later date. All our stock Birdy's come with mudguards
and a kickstand, both of which we strongly recommend, though we are
happy to accessorise to you own specification.
Birdy still offer a basic budget model - the Birdy Red, which is featured
below.
[picture forthcoming]
Birdy
Light
£1049.00
The
Birdy Light is the simplest, but one of the lightest in the range. It
kas 8 Speed Shimano Capreo derailleur gears and is the basic performance
package. Ideal for day rides, fast commuting or touring. It is
fully configurable like any Birdy.

Birdy
City
Standard
£1099
With
Nexus Premium (recommended)
£1139
Th
City comes with the Shimano Nexus eight speed hub gear. This makes it
the ideal birdy for commuting and utility cycling, or those who value
the low maintenance of a hub gear and can't afford a Birdy Rohloff.
The Nexus eight gives an impressive range of gearing and smooth and
reliable shifting performance. The model picture here features the comfort
handlebar stem, mudguards, kickstand, front hub dynamo syatem, rear
battery light and the SL rack. We recommend the Birdy expedition rack
for all models.

Birdy
Touring
£1199
The Birdy Touring features the excellent Shimano Intego 3x8 gear system
that delivers the full 24 speed potential of a modern mountain or touring
bike. This is the bike that you can pack up and take on foreign tours.
If you fit the rear rack and front low riders the Birdy Touring will
carry four small panniers. Though heavier than the others it still only
tips the scales at around 24lbs. Th model shown here features
the a standard handlebar stem, expedition rack, front low rider rack
and mudguards. For 2006 this colour is not available - the alternative
is a dark satin anthracite.
Birdy
Speed
£1559
The
Birdy speed has the specification for those who must have the lightest
and the fastest. Equipped with Shimano 9 speed Deore XT gears it is
the lightest Birdy of the lot.

Birdy Rohloff
£2199
The
Birdy Rohloff is the ultimate folding bike. A combination of Riese and
Muller's unique frame design and Rolhoff's fabulous 14 speed hub gear.
This model features a re-engineered frame to accomodate the new expedition
rear carrier. The Rolhoff Speedhub 14 is a technological marvel. Featuring
14 equally spaced gears, it gives the range of a contemporary mountain
bike derailleur system at an equivalent weight. However this package
comes enclosed in the rear hub, which protects its workings from the
elements making for a cleaner and more reliable transmission. With the
range and versatility of a derailleur system and the durability of a
hub gear this really is the Holy Grail of cycle gear technology.

Mezzo
The Mezzo is a stylish 16" wheel high quality aluminium folder
with a lively sporty ride. Designed by John Whyte, ex Formula 1 engineer
turned bicycle designer, it has five distinguishing design features.
1)
It folds fast.
2) It
features self locking catches, inspired by an aircraft safety belt.
These are intuitive and quick to use.
3)
Like the Birdy it has a hinge free main frame,
which creates a stiffer structure. This gives
a more responsive ride = better aceleration.
4)
It uses standard transmission and brake components,
making them easier to replace and upgrade.
5) It's
made of aluminium alloy which makes it light and stiff, with mudguards
integrated into the mainframe - a very nice touch.

The
Mezzo d9: smooth riding and stylish
All Mezzos
come with a rack as standard and are currently available in five gorgeous
anodised metallic finishes - dark silver, black, sand, blue, pink and
two models:
Mezzo
i4 £625.00
The
i4 features the silky smooth Shimano Nexus four speed hub gear. It has
a silent clutch which makes for silent running and has the same ratio
as more tranditional three speed gears, but with an extra gear which
makes for an more even and useable spread. It's the model to go for
if you seek simplicity and robust durability, the i4 will serve as an
excellent commuter or low maintenance recreational cycle.
Mezzo
d9 £645.00
The
d9 comes with the Shimano Capreo 9 speed derailleur
system. It's lighter than the i4 and has a
distinctly sportier feel. It's more versatile
and will do for commuting and longer leisure
riding.
For
full specifications you can visit the Mezzo

Dahon
Folding Bikes
Dahon
is the world's largest manufacturer of folding bikes and has the range
to match. We aim to keep in stock all the most popular models, which
are featured here. Below is a selection - watch this space for new 2007-8
models as they become available.

Speed
D7 £299.99
Featuring seven speed derailleur gears, 20" wheels and a chromoly
steel frame, the Speed D7 bike is fairly light, comfy and folds to a
manageable size. Rack, mudguards and kickstand come as standard. It
comes in a gloss black, not pale blue as pictured!

Vitesse D7 £339.99
with derailleur gears
Vitesse D7HG £399.99
with hub gears
The Vitesse D7 is has the same frame as as the Speed D7 but with an
aluminium frame to make it lighter. It is available in a Shimano 7 speed
Nexus hub geared version (pictured) or a 7 speed derailleur version,
- both equipped with rack, mudguards and a kickstand. The derailleur
version looks just like the speed and is available in a gloss light
grey. The hub version is available in a satin mid-dark grey which is
markedly lighter than it appears in this image.

Dahon Curve D3 £349.99
The
Curve is a more compact offering from Dahon. It features the same elegant
lightweight curved frame as the MU8 but with smaller 16" wheels,
which make for a smaller fold. However, the ride quality is impressive
thanks to the large volume, but high pressure Schwalbe Big Apple tyres.
A three speed gear makes for simplicity and reliabliity. It comes with
rack, mudguards and a chainguard (unlike in the picture above which
is unequipped). It's adjustability means that it will also suit smaller
people for whom the reach to the handlebar may be too long on the 20"
model Dahons. It also has a smaller fold than 20" bikes, so it
is a good alternative if you can't afford a Brompton. Available in three
colours: red with white detailing, feminine pink with flowery graphics
or white with subtle green coachlines.

Dahon Mu P8 £499.99
The P8 is
a great all rounder, combining a 20" wheel size with a lightweight,
stiff and responsive frame with a comfy upright riding position. Slick
Schwalbe Marathon kevlar tyres gives enhanced puncture resistance with
high pressure, which makes for a fast, sporty but stable ride. This
one is great if you are seeking an upright and comfy recreational folder
with just that extra bit of perfomance. The Uk model that we supply
is also equipped with a tubular alloy rack. Colour is gloss blue.

Dahon Mu XL Sport £699.99
The Mu XL
is aimed at the commuter or urban rider who seeks a lightweight low
maintenance machine with a wide gear range. Equipped with mudguards,
kickstand and a Shimano 8 speed Nexus hub gear. Hub gears are gret for
their no fuss, ease of use and low maintenance. For added comfort the
XL has a susspension seatpost and Ergon ergonomic handlebar grips. Colour
is a subtle gloss grey.

Dahon Speed TR £649.99
Equipped
with SRAM Dual Drive 24 speed gears the Speed TR is a portable touring
bike. The 4130 chromoly frame is strong and stiff, but being steel has
a springier feel than other alloy models. Fully equipped for touring
with a full size tubular rear rack and front low riders, it is one of
the few compact folders that will take full sized panniers. The Speed
TR is great for long distance riding.

Dahon
Mu SL £899.99
At
8.7kg the Mu SL claims to be one of the world's lightest production
folding bikes. Every detail is aimed at achieving the fastest and lightest
within a folding format. Thus, a minimalist 7005 aluminium frame, SRAM
X7 nine speed gears and Schwalbe high pressure slick tyres. Add this
to the unique Kinetix Pro S wheel set and you have a folding cheetah!

Dahon
Jack £349.99
For
those who want a full sized bike with the convenience of a fold, the
Jack is a practical and economical choice. 26" wheels for comfort
on an off road.

Dahon
Cadenza £579.99
Great
value, high specification and versatile 26" wheeled folder. Featuring
the new Shimano 8 speed performance hub gear sytem - Alfine, with mechanical
disc brakes. This would be great value in a standard bike alone. Good
for commuting and all round recreation, both and and off road.
Ridgeback
Folding Bikes
Ridgeback
folders are also made by Dahon, but because Ridgeback is a UK company
their bikes are specified with the needs of the UK market in mind. Those
that we choose to stock are, we believe, great value for money as well
as filling significant niches in our folding bike range. All Ridgeback
folder come with covers.

Ridgeback
Rendezvous £229.99
(includes cover)

Airnimal
Folding Bikes
Airnimal
folding bikes set out to give true road bike performance in a compact
collapsible format. There are two basic models, which are both available
with a variety of different specifications: the Chameleon and the Joey.

Airnimal
Chameleon Ultra £1,699.99
Airnimal
Chameleon
£999.99 - £2199
The
Chameleon is a unique machine. Distinguished by a heat treated 7005
aluminium suspended frame and 24" IS0 520 wheels, which, with the
carefully designed geometry, combine to make a light, stiff, fine handling
bike. The suspended rear triangle has its pivot placement optimised
to give a 'unified rear triangle' - which means that no power is wasted
in compressing the suspension during the pedal stroke. But enough of
the jargon, what really distinguishes this bike is its extremely comfortable
ride - like floating on air, hence the name!
So well
does the Chameleon perform that many riders use it for their most important
events and challenges. Chameleons have not only been used for self contained
tours across the US and around the world, but also have been ridden
to PBs, climbed the highest surfaced road in the world, completed the
Etape ham du Tour and the Paris Brest, and, recently, ridden to a medal
in the World Triathlon Championship.

Chameleon Performance £1199.99
In folding
terms, whatever your need from a folding bike, the Chameleon has the
answers. 30 seconds sees it folded ready to go in the car or on the
train. 3 minutes and it is folded into a suitcase ready for checking
onto a plane. Finally, for the truly peripatetic traveller, is the third,
'carry-on' fold - 15 minutes and the Chameleon is folded into a rucksack
which can be carried-on to a plane and then used as a rack pack or rolled
into a pannier.
The Chameleon
Available with drop bars for those seeking true road bike performance
or flat bars for a bit more versatility for touring or long distance
commuting. Specification varies from the largely Sora equipped 24 speed
Adventure with flat bars right up to the Ultima, featuring Shimano 20
speed Dura Ace.

Chameleon Ultima (Dura Ace)
£2199.99
Airnimal
Joey
£699.99 - £1499.99
The Joey
is a rigid collapsible folder with a similar fold to the Chameleon.
It comes with two wheel sizes: sporty 520 rims with thinner high pressure
sports tyres and rims, or the versatile and slightly smaller 507 size.
The latter come with thicker tyres, better suited to touring and more
varied road conditions. Due to historically varied wheel sizing standards
both are nominally "24 inch" but the 507 is the more common
(24x1.75). Essentially, the Joey will deliver large wheel performance
in a foldable package but at a more affordable price than the Chameleon.
Racks and mudguards are available for all models (but do complicate
the fold).

Airnimal
Joey Sport
£699.99
The
lightest and cheapest! Simple eight speed, with sports wheels for speed
and simplicity. A great fast commuter or recreational bike.

Airnimal
Joey Commute
£749.99
Equipped
with the Shimano 8 speed Nexus hub gear. A robust and reliable commuter.
We recommend that you upgrade the tyres to Schwalbe Marathon for enhanced
durability and puncture resistance. Best for commuting or utility uses.
N.B. The derailleur in the photo is supposed to be there - it acts as
a chain tensioner.

Airnimal
Joey Explore £899.99
Equipped
with the superb SRAM 3x7 gear sytem to give a full 24 speed touring
range. We usually stock these these equipped with rack and mudguards
ready for touring (priced here for the basic uneuipped model). Tyre
upgrade recommended too.
Airnimal
Joey Explore £1499.99
The
Joey Explore Elite (not pictured) combines the gear range of the all
singing all dancing Rohloff 14 speed hub with the ride and convenient
fold of the Joey frameset . The Rohloff hub provides a massive 526%
gear spread, giving it as wide a gear range as a 27 speed derailleur
geared bike. It also comes with a Brooks B17 saddle and marathon tyres
as standard. As
with all Rohloff equipped machines - the ultimate in its class.
