'Radial' Innaugurates New Art Project

Radial is a stunning abstract sculpture by installation artist Susanne Davies inspired by the art of wheelbuilding. You can view it in our window throughout the month of January. It's the first piece in a series of artworks that we will be featuring as part of a joint project with Bar Lane Studios in Mickleagate promoting local artists. It looks best at night, but don't let that deter you from visiting us in opening hours!

Susanne is used to working on a much larger scale than this and typically may use 12.5 miles of embriodery thread spanning up to 50ft for some of her larger works. As appropriate to her cycling theme this time, she has gone compact.

For future works, artists and designers will be invited to design our window displays or simply display work inspired by a cycling theme such as the one here. We are expecting work in all sorts of formats, genres and materials - so do watch this changing space. Our sincerest thanks go to Ben Clowes of Bar Lane studios space for making this possible.
